Day and Employment Services Outcomes Systems (DESOS)
How do working-age adults with disabilities spend their day in your state? What types of work are they doing? What employment outcomes are they achieving?
The DESOS is a web-based, data collection application developed by the Indiana University’s Institute on Disability and Community in collaboration with community rehabilitation providers, Vocational Rehabilitation, and the state Developmental Disabilities agency. By collecting information about each person receiving day and employment services, DESOS helps in monitoring system performance and providing system insights for give state policymakers, local service providers, and legislators.
The 24-question survey provides a data “snapshot” which can help community service providers and policy makers answer questions about where thousands of individuals are spending the majority of their day. The DESOS survey collects information on demographic and background information (e.g., age, guardianship status, behavioral issues, primary mode of communication and level of personal assistance); settings where people spend the majority of their time and employment-related items seek to capture information about one’s work situation, including, hours worked, type of work performed, and earnings from employment. Additional information includes details about residence, social interactions, and transportation during the day.
Is DESOS something your state could benefit from?
